Short description

Casus Foederis is a turn-based diplomacy game of Europe from the Congress of Vienna to 1871. You lead one of twelve great powers: you sign alliances and answer their calls to war, take provinces and give them back, and call congresses. Grow too fast and Europe unites against you.

Long description

Europe, 1815. The Congress of Vienna has redrawn the map, and twelve great powers watch one another. You lead one of them for half a century.

An alliance is a promise. When your ally is attacked, it calls on you — casus foederis — and Europe watches whether you come, and whether you fight once you are there. A refusal costs legitimacy and trust; a call honoured only on paper costs too.

Your real opponent is the coalition. Every province you take is counted, and when the threat to the balance of power crosses the line, your neighbours unite: a blockade on your revenue, and no separate peace. Wars end at the table, at a congress with a price in gold, renounced claims and returned provinces.

In 1871 a final congress decides who stands first in Europe, weighing land by legitimacy. Every number behind that verdict is visible during play.
